Every year SCBWI sponsors the Tomie dePaola award for illustrators. This years challenge was to focus on characterization, that is, to come up with an original approach to the characters in “Little Red Riding Hood”. I decided to focus on the scene where the mother is lecturing Red on the dangers of her trip. I didn’t have a lot of free time in my schedule so I opted for black and white.
